Book Review

I haven't really had a lot to put on here (as is obvious of the dates in between posts) but, I feel the need to put down some thoughts on a classic novel I finished reading, "Frankenstein". I rated it 2 stars in my book list which means I thought it was not too good. I struggled all the way through the book and read 2 other books in the same period. I would put Frankenstein down and read a seperate book and then pick it back up again. So, after finishing I thought I really didn't enjoy this book but felt almost guilty because it's a "classic". I should like all of those right?

Well I don't know if the movies have tainted my reading but I found the growth of the monster laborous in reading and kind of whiny in the narrative. I wanted to nod off and sleep during most of it. I did like the first part of the book with the great characters in the family and Frankenstein's work at college and thought it would be more thrilling throughout. I was disappointed.

So judge me as a mental midget if you must but, I cannot shake my opinion of this book and needed to share it.

NBA Season 2 Part IV

So the Lakers win the finals and it is nice. I guess I should be happier but, I am getting older and these things mean a little less to me each passing year. I am going to be a grumpy old guy I can feel it! I almost take more joy my previous posts being grumpy critical than celebrating the team that I follow winning a championship. Although it will be nice if the Dodgers can win this year and my follow teams will have dominated the calendar year. But, I digress...LOL

I enjoyed the games but yesterday was anti-climactic. We had friends over at the house for dinner and the game was on but I didn't really watch. I just felt they were going to win and they didn't really have a big problem doing so. I know I missed some good plays (saw them later on SC) but didn't really care too much. Also, at the end of the game to see the celebration I feel wierd watching Kobe celebrate...feel like it's contrived and scripted, not genuine. But I am not sure what I expected but, it's nice that the Lakers won. Just nice. If the series was a little longer I think it would be more satisfying. The games were close for the most part and Kobe's performance was amazing. Not really sure where this is going (nowhere :-))?

Just wanted to comment I guess - - - I am happier when I finish a new book...LOL

NBA Second Season part III

So just to give a little more fuel to the fire of my issues with LeBron just reference his actions after his "team" lost to the Magic 4games to 2games. He walked off the court without shaking hands and then is quoted a couple of days later saying that he just couldn't shake the hands of those that just beat him because he is such a competitor. Hmmmmm, I guess the global icon doesn't have any sportsmanship. When things are good it's good but if not, then the sportsmanship goes. I don't care about him ditching the press but, lack of sportsmanship is just another chink in his armour, as far as I am concerned. But as is obvious, I am the only one who cares...LOL.

Maybe someday you'll see my blog on the blog follow segment on the 4 letter network - THE WORST SEGMENT EVER!! Well except maybe that 64 athlete "tournament" they had where they asked who is more NOW...LOL. npse stinks.

NBA Season 2 Cont...

So we are 1 game into each conference Final and I have to say it is nice to see Cleveland go down. You might ask yourself why I take joy in seeing Cleveland lose? I mean they haven't won anything and it's only the second conference final in a long time for them, so why no love?

1. Lebron James...scrrrreeeechhh, wait a minute, Zack has an issue with Lebron? We gotta hear this ... So I am not saying he isn't an amazing hoopster it's just I don't like him. I know he is just trying to be "a global icon" (his words not mine) and I am supposed to be a witness to King James but, I don't like him. I have thought this through many times and I am thinking it boils down to he carries himself like he has 15 years of NBA experience and many titles. It puts me off. It is more like he is a star in a movie (although it can be argued the nba is scripted) than an athlete. I am wierd, I have stated that before and it hasn't changed.

2. The supporting cast - i am supposed to be rooting for Delonte West, Varejao (sp), ilgauskis, and a washed up Joe Smith? No, I'll take my chances rooting for the Magic even though JJ Redick sees to much time on the floor (1/2 second is too long for him).

3. They are touted as great by dominating a couple of horrible teams from the East. They are finally playing someone that can play, in the Magic.

4. Non sensical fandom. The last thing is I just don't like them. Back when they had Brad Daugherty, Mark Price, and Craig Ehlo I rooted for them against MJ and the Bulls (another story) but not now.

So When the Magic actually beat the Cavs for the first loss in the Playoffs I was happy and then turned the channel to the Dodger Game :-)

NBA Season 2

I received a question about posting predictions for nba playoffs...while the first round is well under way I figure I should. And when the playoff season ends in august or September we can check back and see if I am right!
I tried to do this in a bracket format and had to basically fool blogspot or myself into the below. It's a bit blurry but click on the "picture" and you will see the full result.

Baseball and more

So baseball is starting again soon and I know that it's a long season and only "nerds" care to follow it all season long well, here I am - Giant Bird Nerd #1. I also swore I would never do what I am now doing which is play fantasy baseball. However it's not going to be as much fun because I just joined random leagues so I don't know anyone.

I will not only follow the Dodgers and everyone else along the way but I will be caring about player stats more than usual. Why oh why? With Ty's baseball, work, church callings, family, and book club (the order was unintended and wrong) I really shouldn't add the fantasy baseball but I did because that's just kinda guy I am (odd to the core).

So I think I will do what I copied Garrett on last year and throw my predictions for the Baseball Season on the blog:

National League:
West:
Dodgers
Giants
DBacks
Rockies
Padres

Central:
Cardinals
Cubs
Brewers

East:

Rangers
Mariners

Central:

Indians
Royals
White Sox
Tigers

East:
Rays
Red Sox
Blue Jays

March Madness

It's almost that most wonderful of times when brackets are king and bandwidth is wasted; yes, the NCAA Tournament (basketball of course) is almost upon us. With that comes the right/ritual of filling out your bracket and competing with others for braggin rights...some for money I hear. If you want to join our bragging rights competition either leave a message here with an email I can send an invitation or send me an email.

Also, this link will help you keep up on all the action and the action you want to watch http://mmod.ncaa.com/email/notify . It is great and I have used this service for the past few years to keep up on what's happening.

Book Club and Books

So our book club has been in existence for 1 month. We even talked about the book for about 45 Min. in our virtual meeting space. I had fun reading the book and then talking about it. I have decided (for my own recollections) to list the books I have read this year and a rating of the book. I am trying to read the book from our book club and then when done read one of the books Ty is reading. Jan = success. We will see how the year progresses.
