Horrible Video Quality-

Video that goes with post below.

Brady talkin' trash

How come Tom Brady never gets a taunting penalty?

I feel I need to comment on the shalacking that my Steelers were given yesterday. First of all, does everyone know what a guarantee is? A guarantee is something that if "A" does or does not happen then I will do "B". For example, if you have a reservation guarantee and the hotel does not have a room for you they will send you to another hotel and pay 1 night of your stay. That's a guarantee, not I booked a room and you have to have it...

Anonymous Steeler player (that is what he was before the "guarantee") promised a win. That isn't good as the team was good enough without needing a press release to motivate them. And to see him get beat a couple times, real bad, was sad or funny depending on what team you like. So, with that in mind, I thought the Steelers were going to hang in there but they could not score when they got close. I feel they missed Santonio Holmes and also that they should have run Fast Willie more. If he had 300 yds rushing they probably would have won and he most likely would be close to that as the Pats can't stop anyone running the ball. So what do we do? Pass and pass some more.

My hope is the Pats go undefeated in the playoffs and lose the first round so they will be a great regular season team and LOSERS when it counts.

6 Things

Shelly wrote in her blog that she was tagged (I am assuming in my nerdy voice this means challenged...hohi) to write 6 interesting things about her and then wrote "And since I'm in the mood I will tag the rest of you out there! Show me what you've got!!!" So I guess I can participate - - -

1. I have about 50 "homies" figurines. They used to be on display in my office at work but they are now "chillin" in a box waiting for a new location

2. At work we once named a street pan handler "hungry santa" because he was real skinny and had a santa beard. Notice I didn't say poor santa, I watched him one day and he made a minimum of 10.00 in 5 minutes. I would guess he made around 100.00 a day tax free and only working by our building. We even have a cartoon that appeared in the newspaper with a santa taht had lost weight and posted it on the wall - it's still there. (I know, now you also know how insensitive I am)

3. In 5th grade i once asked a noon duty lady permission to fight a kid that was a bully. It was such a lame "fight" I think a couple of swings (not connecting) were thrown before that noon dudy lady realized we took her permission seriously.

4. Since 5th grade is now an open subject, I wrote a ton of short stories in and for class. I had three tales of Giant Pickle Man and a horrible story I read for class, among others. I will spare you the name of it and I am ashamed and have learned a lesson from it because I used people from the class in the story and exploited their quirks. Wow, I am an awful human being....

5. My secret superhero ability would be invisibility - amateur psychologists have at that one!

6. On a rainy day I like to curl up on the couch with a nice comedy on the TV. Well that's everyday if they put enough of them on that were funny...

wow, I am so not interesting. If shortfalls are interesting than maybe I am.

My New Tech Crusade

So I have a new tech obsession. No, it won't help me stay organized, stay in touch with anyone, or improve my career or life situation, but will, however, ease the itch inside. You know that itch, the itch of a chicken pock that you know you shouldn't scratch? You move your body in hopes that maybe some clothes will ease the itch and maybe it does and yet the itch is still there and getting harder to ignore. You cannot scratch it because they say it will scar. But, if you do the relief feels good. The old instant gratification. Well my chicken pock is a video game: Guitar Hero! www.guitarhero.com My scar however is worse than a little mark on my skin but would be a gash in my wallet where there is no money. Not to say that it's that expensive but it is when you consider it's a game and food and safety and health are 1 kagillion times more important. Yet there is the itch...

Last Saturday we were at Sam's Club waiting for pictures to be finished and normally I would have been going bonkers with the wait. After going around the whole store I see something up the aisle that has piqued my interest...hmm...what is that, someone playing a guitar? Oh, it's that guitar hero thing I have heard so much about. Ty and I check it out and it looks cool. Ty tries it, likes it but has a hard time getting it. A guy shows us how to play. Ty tries again and is better. Then I get the pox!! I try and do OK and love it! We play a couple of more times and we are hooked (me more than Ty, of course). So, when I am walking along the parking lot and find 89.99 (or something similar) I will itch my pox and not even get a scar!!!!!!!

NBC Green Week

Drafting off of the waste of time / my favorite tv shows, NBC is jamming "Green Week" onto each of their shows. I thought this to be ridiculous but thought the shows would go off without a hitch. Well, it's Wednesday and already this environmental propoganda is causing brain impulses that bring on irritation or something of the like.

Last night on my favorite comedy, drama, action, and love story, Biggest Loser, they incorporated "Green" into everything they said. "I always have my team eat organic and it saves money because it is local and doesn't have to be shipped." Well, since this is the first time I heard this from a trainer I had to wonder if she did but I am assuming she did. The other thing is that Organic Food is usually more expensive as the grower does not use products that help their food grow so they have to offset the lack of production somehow. All of the contestants were all of a sudden worried about the environment as well and included this worry in their little one on one interviews. Of course they never changed the fact they drink bottled water instead of drinking from the tap. All that plastic from the bottled water; all of the equipment and electricity used to filter the tap water to put in plastic bottles; all of the man power used to run the equipment and they drove their cars to work. Do these things not hurt the environment.

Oh, and on Sunday Night Football they cut their light usage down and had candles. This was one of the lamest stunts pulled. Hopefully NBC can get a Peace Prize for their work on the environment. . . Of course next week the 3 sets they have will be fully lit. I guess it's ok for them but we, as regular people, have to save the world. Maybe Al Gore and the CEO of GE/NBC can take private jets to my house and show me how to be Greeeeeeeeeeen.

I know this will continue through the week and one of my favorite shows, 30 Rock will have Schwimmer as some Eco-Superhero and Al Gore making a suprise visit and being "funny". I am all for cutting waste as no one wants to live next to a landfill and I understand not hurting what God has created but this corporate push to be green is only a push to produce GREEEN...Dollar Green.

I did forget one thing, if TV says it's true: it's true!

Cool Candy to BCS analogy

This is from Steve Czaban the funniest sports talk radio host I have heard. www.czabe.com is where I got this list:

1. Ohio State (M&M's Plain)The Buckeyes are a dependable presence, much like good ol' M&M's plain. They won't really excite many people and can be knocked off by a better choice of candy, but they are seemingly always around.

2. Boston College (Bit O' Honey)Nobody likes Bit O' Honey, and even fans in Boston are largely ignoring this year's mid-major Cinderella story. Who wants a chunk of chewy, half-brittle, honey-based candy that gets stuck in your molars? Awful.

3. LSU (Snickers)This is a meaty, serious gut stuffer of a candy, just like the football team. However, LSU isn't likely to make many fall in love with them, just as you don't rave about a Snickers aside from it's ability to satisfy your hunger.

4. Arizona State (Spree)On the one hand, every once in a while, this candy makes sense. A big long roll of sweet, hard, disks. What's not to like? The chafed tongue. Arizona State seems like a good idea now. We'll end up thinking different.

5. Oregon (Mike & Ike)The colorful candy chewies now come in different flavored boxes - regular, tangy typhoon, tangy twister, jolly joes and berry blast. Like Oregon's uniforms, you could theoretically mix and match Mike and Ikes into 2,432 flavor combinations.

6. Oklahoma (Milky Way)They perfected the basic chocolate, caramel and nougat bar combination. A triple threat, just like Oklahoma perfected the wishbone.

7. West Virginia (Fun Dip)This is a "candy" that involves a sugar stick you lick, and pouches of sugar powder to dip them in and lick off. Total novelty, gimmick candy. Like the spread with Slaton and White. Gimmicky, but delicious to watch.

8. Kansas (Candy Cigarettes)People always ask: "Do they still make candy cigarettes?" Yes, yes they do. Just like people ask: "Does Kansas really play Division I football?" I'm afraid so.

9. Missouri (Abba Zabba)Nobody is really sure what they are, where you can find them, and whether anybody really likes them.

10. Georgia (Hot Tamales)A truly second-tier candy amongst the chewy non-chocolate set, no matter what fans of the candy may say. Let's be honest. Hot Tamales are over-rated. Just like Georgia fans think of themselves and their team. Overrated.

11. Virginia Tech (Reese's Peanut Butter Cups)A delicious candy that will melt at the slightest increase in temperature above room level. Not unlike the Hokies, who typically melt once the schedule heats up in November.

12. Michigan (Kit-Kat)What's not to like? Chocolate. Wafers. Simple, satisfying, right? Like the football team however, the Kit-Kat doesn't really inspire or wow you. It's just sort of there.

13. UConn (Nerds)Best consumed in small doses.

There was more but I could not access it...maybe because I cut and paste the first page... Anyway, funny none the less.

Baseball and wherever the mind goes

So I don't know about everyone else but I really had no interest in the World Series. I believe I can narrow down why that is and clear my own head. Of course a sweep did not help but there are other reasons:

1) The schedule of the playoffs-
a. As with other sports they milk the playoffs to get as much ad revenue as possible
b. This leads to many days when baseball isn't even played and it's easy to forget the days they play.
c. This also leads to a potential where a team or teams can be sitting for a week or more waiting to play thus breaking the continuity of their play and my viewing.

2) Game times -
a. Regular season games take around 3 hours where many of the playoff and WS games lasted in excess of 4 hours. If I was anywhere but the west coast I wouldn't be able to stay up to watch (news flash--I didn't anyway).
b. Saturday at 5pm pacific??? Start the thing at 1pm pacific 4pm est. This is how baseball is shown during the season so why not during playoffs? Oh, sorry, ad revenue....

So I thought I had more breakdown but that is sufficient for my worn out head. Oh, one more thing...I CANNOT STAND THE RED SOX!!!

notes.... I hear Torre to relpace Little?? Let's do it, bring A Rod here with our young core and let's actually win!!! Go Dodgers!

A month and not a lot

So I haven't posted anything in a while and don't have any "rants" but rather suggestions of time management wastefulness, or in other words: TV. I will list shows you should be watching instead of reading a book, doing yardwork, cleaning the house, doing laundry, exercising, getting a haircut, working, giving your kids a bath, feeding your family, taking free money from the door to door money giving guy.... Anyway, if you watch a bit of TV and aren't watching these give them a shot. A lot of them you can watch on the network websites.

Comedy:
Office - NBC
My Name is Earl - NBC
30 Rock - NBC
Scrubs - NBC
Simpsons (I don't get to watch much but always great!) - FOX
Biggest Loser --- :-) - NBC

Action / cop drama / ??
Life - NBC
Heroes - NBC
Biggest Loser :-) - NBC
24 - FOX
Chuck - NBC

Drama
Lost - ABC
Biggest Loser - NBC
Shark - CBS (really just a fluff show but fun sometimes)
Sometimes Cold Case - CBS

Not sure yet shows
Bionic Woman - NBC

Shows to avoid like the plague
Bachelor - ABC
Desperate Housewives - ABC
Private Practice - ABC
Cavemen - ABC
Any CSI - CBS
Any other comedy other than well...any comedy on CBS
Any other Drama on ABC

I know that there are other shows and I can't think of all of them but these are my perfectly correct opinions.. Ha ha. So I know ABC is supposed to be the network of #1's but their lineup is completely horrible except Lost. In my opinion the bottom network of opinion but tops in mine is NBC. They have the greatest comedies and some other good shows. Biggest loser was a joke in here in case that went by you, I watch it but, I think it's a crack up some times and sometimes people actually do something entertaining. Oh, but DVR this because the "drama" is killer, in a bad way.

There is your time waster update and if you need more ways to waste time, google "wasting time" and see what you can come up with!

9/19 previous week of sports or whatever

Donovan McNabb did an interview with James Washington before the season and it aired last Sunday. I have liked McNabb since he joined the Eagles and appreciated that he is a good example as well as an athlete. I was disappointed to hear that he is saying black quarterbacks get more pressure / scrutiny than white. I just don't like the race issue being used constantly but it reveals a bigger problem in the world that becomes increasingly prevelant; that is, not taking responsibility.

Even in my own job I have thoughts that blame others and I have to remind myself that I have control over more of my life than I tend to acknowledge a lot of the time. If I have a bad day I tend to have a reason or reasons why I have that bad day but it usually has nothing to do with myself. When I can constructively look at it I see that I allowed events to change how I felt. That is disturbing and something I am working on but am not that successful.

Bringing this back to McNabb, he gets critisism and it's getting worse as he is playing when he isn't really ready (although they would rip him for not coming back if he was still rehabing). Previous critisism seemed normal for the QB position. I can get why he can have thoughts that there is more pressure being a black quarterback, but like myself, if we take the time to evaluate and see what role we have we don't have to fall victim to the poor me feeling.

It's horrible to be critisized and I don't know anyone that likes it. His critisism comes with more force as he makes a lot of money and is in the public spotlight. So, I guess I am more dissapointed with the fact that he aired these grevances instead of taking the harsh treatment and show he is above it.

Without re-reading this blog I am sure I left a lot of holes and unexplained logic but, you can comment and critisize me. It's going to be true so I will be ok.

Weekend Sports Opinions 9/8-9/07

There was an abundance of sports this weekend and I didn't get a chance to watch a lot but saw a lot of highlights and watched some games. I missed a lot for good reasons - son's soccer game and church service - but know I missed it so oh well.

BYU - UCLA:
I honestly felt pretty good about the "Y's" chances against the baby bears. I have a co-worker that has had season tickets for years and she didn't know a thing about BYU so she asked what I thought would happen. I told her I thought it would be real close or UCLA would just blow us out. I felt that I was justified with the 10point win but was closer than that.

With the pick 6 in the first half UCLA had an inflated lead. Kudos for the big plays in the game but BYU dominated the majority of this game. T.O.P. was a lopsided affair as was the total yards and passing yards. I guess the most important stat was big plays and UCLA made them with the interception and fumble recoveries. HOWEVER, I didn't realize that the replay officials were as blind as the refs on the field. 1st fumble was clearly receiver's knee on the ground before the ball came out and replay?????? still fumble. I guess we need to get HD TV's for the PAC - 10 replay officials. 2nd fumble was Max Hall's arm moving forward and replay official???? fumble again. I am not blaming the refs but still feel the need to point this out. Plus, penalty yards was a lopsided affair that BYU won, unfortunately. I will say we got one call when we intercepted the ball there was clearly PI on the cougs that wasn't called so I will give that to the inconsistency to the refs for us.

Overall, I think the rest of the year should go pretty well. It was a fun game to watch other than the outcome.

Dodgers - sinking but with the weekend I just looked at finals and see they are still in the wildcard and 51/2 back in the division. We need to go on a huge winning streak and soon.

Steelers - looked great but it was the Browns. However, you need to schedule a cupcake before you get into the big games so you can get into the BCS...OOHHHH this is the NFL and they actually have playoffs. If big Ben can throw 4 touches every week, we will be in business...but again, Browns were the opponent.

NFL- Boring Cowgirls and Gigantes game. Falcons still cannot win, and this league is still overhyped. It's a good thing there are a lot of people that can follow the once a week games since they can't follow everyday sports (baseball) or everyother day sports (basektball).

HP Book Review

So after starting 'Order of the Phoenix' in the beginning of July and then reading 'Half Blood Prince' I finally started 'Deathly Hallows'. So the first thing I have to say is I never really paid attention to the title and listened to people say Deathly HOllows...like a forest. Then as I read and realized it was HAllows that made a huge difference. For a while I expected something to happen in one of the many forest locations but how foolish a thought that was. Anyway, I finished last night so I figured I would write my thoughts down about this book and the series.

I loved the fact that all of the characters came into play during the book. I thought that we would miss great characters like Neville, Luna, and my favorites Fred and George. I was kept on the roller coaster of events not really knowing what was going to happen next. Although, I have to admit I didn't really try to figure things out and went with the flow of the book. I don't know if it was because I mostly read when I was tired at night but, it seemed the emotion flowed more in this book and there are some other obvious reasons: characters we have grown to like disappearing or dieing does bring that about.

So I haven't done a great job in my review but, skipping to the end I had one of my suspicions confirmed and that was that Snape was really on Dumbledore's side. In 'Half Blood Prince' when he kills Dumbledore I thought that was the plan and I was justified in that thinking. With all the doubt that is cast on Dumbledore I learned that if he trusted someone or a theory to go with it. I was all ready for Harry to actually die and had kind of a wierd dissapointment when he didn't. But, JK did a good job of explaining it and it made for that cool showdown with Voldemort (no I am not afraid :-)). Other than the "19 Years later" being really cheesy but kind of necessary, I really liked this book. Of them all I had previously like 'Half Blood Prince' best and 'DH' outdid 'HBP' just enough; although since the kids are older the language of "men" comes into play more which I didn't care for.

Overall the book is a 5star book. A great series with only 1 book that was difficult - 'Order of the Phoenix'. If you haven't read the series and enjoy a good, good versus evil book with great characters I reccomend you get started. They are easy reads and don't tax the brain too much or at all. Will there be another Harry Potter phenomenon type of series again? Who knows.

Music Review today

I know many of the family do not share similar music tastes as me but, I was given a CD that I think is real good and in addition it's clean and fun. The group is the Frateli's. For those of you that remember the great movie "The Goonies" the group took their name from the bad guy family in the movie. Anyway, the group is from the UK and they have a different style than most of today's "rock" bands. If I had to compare them to a group I would compare them to the Zuton's. I am sure most haven't heard of them either. So, to be more precise, they have kind of a Rockabilly sound which I would describe as rock with a little twang. The guitars are not overboard and the drums are not too overdone either. Anyway, if you like a bit of rock but not the over the top stuff then the Fratelis are good to check out. So basically, maybe Garrett will be interested. As I read this I realize it's more just to write something...wow, and I thought I wouldn't like this blog thing...

The Reason

So I figure if there is a family site I shouldn't put useless opinions and garbage there so I made another blog that the useless waste can be written. However, if you are somehow entertained, informed, or led to some new waste of time that you enjoy, my blog life is complete.

First one:
Fantasy Football!
Football in general is known as a "man's" game that you need to be tough, smart (did I put smart...well, to a degree), athletic, sometimes fat, crass, rude, cocky, and willing to put your body in injuries way. As time and technology have improved we have new ways of following these men that play. Some of us have played and some haven't but it seems everyone is an expert. Fantasy sports have become huge but as I think about it (and I love fantasy football) I realize one thing: Fantasy is for NERDS! But sign me up and I will be a nerd for life. Us un-athletic, fat, crass, rude cock, wimpy, dumb guys can now sit behind a computer and pretend they are in charge of a team. Wow, and to think I could be reading a good book like a normal nerd. Oh, I do that too. So, in conclusion, I HOPE I WIN MY LEAGUE THIS YEAR!
